Vertical Oyster Gardens Initiative
Vertical Oyster Gardens (VOGs) are made from recycled oyster shells from local restaurants and suspended from docks to create a habitat for juvenile oysters. As they grow, oysters provide a vital food source for birds and fish, and create a home for small fish, crabs, and shrimp. Oysters filter 2 to 5 gallons of water per hour, improving the water quality of the Intracoastal. More oysters mean a cleaner and healthier environment for all.
Join us in restoring the Intracoastal with Vertical Oyster Gardens.
Together, we can make a difference!
How VOGs Work
Vertical Oyster Gardens (VOGs) use recycled oyster shells, suspended from docks to create habitats for juvenile oysters.
As these oysters grow, not only do they provide essential food for birds and fish, oysters naturally filter 2 to 5 gallons of water per hour, significantly improving the water quality of the Intracoastal waterways.
